First Spring Cruise!
Travel & UpdatesMay 15, 2017
This cruise would take us to Thetis Island for the Easter weekend. Free Spirit glided out of her slip at the Silva Bay Marina on Gabriola Island @ 12:30 pm to make it through Gabriola Passage at slack water. The seas were a little rough, well maybe more than a little rough – there were whitecaps and of course, wind directly on our nose. On our waters, we see more and more huge ships anchored waiting to be loaded and today we saw 7 of them destroying the anticipation of seeing just water, trees, birds & seals. But being on the water and looking up at the snow-capped mountains is always a sight to behold.
We motored to Telegraph Harbour Marina and were neatly settled at the dock within a short time. We spent some time exploring our surroundings, went for a walk and settled in for the evening. Five other SBYC boats joined us on Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening found us at the local pub/restaurant, Thetis Island Marina Pub, for a great meal followed by a wonderful walk home, back to our boat, under a canopy of green. Each one of the boats received a very early visit from the Easter Bunny on Sunday morning – what a nice surprise to find a colorful Easter basket on our deck. The Sunday morning Pancake breakfast was served on the dock under sunshine which stayed all day, right through to our Easter potluck dinner. Our friends, Jim and Anna from Victoria, along with visitors from the UK, joined us for that evening. On Monday at 12:00, in perfectly calm waters, we left the docks and headed home to Silva Bay on Gabriola Island and easing back into our slip at the marina made for a perfect ending to our Easter Sail.
