LEARN TO SAIL


Free Spirit Sailing provides Canadian Recreational Yachting Association, formerly known as International Sail and Power Association certified sail instruction. 

Our CRYA programs are designed to guide you through the achievement of the competencies, skills and confidence in sailing, enabling you to fulfill your sailing dreams.

 COMPETENT CREW instruction provides you with the skills to live aboard a sailing vessel in tidal waters. In an emergency, you will be able to substitute as skipper.  DAY SKIPPER instruction provides you with certification as the skipper of a live aboard sailing vessel. This prepares you to be responsible for the safety of your vessel and crew, while day sailing in familiar waters, within 10 miles of safe harbour, during daylight, in moderate wind and sea conditions, using basic navigational skills. COASTAL NAVIGATION and COASTAL SKIPPER level certification enables you to acquire all the skills needed to skipper your own boat in all conditions and possibly bareboat charter.




TRY A CRUISE AND LEARN


The best way to learn to sail and to develop your sailing skills is to spend a week or more living aboard a cruising yacht. Through special arrangements with local charter companies, Free Spirit Sailing can organize a Cruise and Learn holiday for your family or group of friends.

 Agathe has an innate ability to help all members of your party to find JOY in sailing.  For women, she uses her knowledge of "women's ways of learning", to enable you to feel safe, heard and empowered as you learn the skills and abilities to crew a sail boat. With couples, families and groups of friends, she ensures ALL participants learn at their pace and according to their interests, all the while emphasizing proper techniques and appreciation for the environment in which you are sailing. A cruise and learn package can be as short as a weekend or as long as you wish.  Either way, you will get a good sense of sailing and learn how to cruise on the Canadian West Coast.


ENHANCE YOUR SKILLS WITH AN ON-WATER ADVENTURE


Know how to sail but haven't tried coastal cruising?  Don't have time or a vessel to keep up your skills? We can help you discover the Salish Sea (Georgia Strait), her Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound and the Sunshine Coast. Agathe will teach you how to sail on the West Coast using your existing skills and enhancing them to help you gain greater confidence and improving your techniques.  Instruction is available on your boat, a charter vessel or in some circumstances, on Free Spirit.
